A Joyous Manner In Serving God

The manner in which we serve makes a difference to God. During the week, we had about 80 young people serving at the Junior camp. Some of them were serving as camp officers while others were helpers involved in the cleaning up after every meal. Serving at camps is a tiring endeavour, and if we are not careful, we can end up feeling very weary and grumpy. Our challenge is always to serve the Lord with gladness.

“Serve the Lord with gladness”
Psalm 100:2

The Psalmist sought to minister with a great sense of gladness. It is not easy to serve at all times with such a disposition, but we must seek to do so. How can we go about doing this?

1. Finding Joy In The Lord

“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands”
Psalm 100:1

God’s servants are meant to honor the Lord joyfully. The source of joy is found in Him. As we praise the Lord, it should be with a spirit of joy. When we know the Lord as our God, naturally, this joy will come. It is He who has created us. He has recognised us as His people and He is a shepherd who leads and guides us in life (Psalm 100:3). When we have the Lord as our God, there should just be this great sense of joy.

2. Being Thankful To The Lord

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name”

Psalm 100:4

The Psalmist challenged his readers to seek to give thanks. We are to have a heart that is always thankful to the Lord for what He has done to us. If we look back on our lives, we will see that the Lord has been good to us. We can be thankful for his everlasting mercies and His wonderful truths. We can be truly thankful for a good camp. Let’s always be thankful to the Lord for His grace.

3. Singing To The Lord Each Day

“Come before His presence with singing.”
Psalm 100:2

When we truly appreciate the Lord for who He is to us and what He has done, we can come before His presence with singing. We sing because the Lord has put a song in our heart. Those who served at the camp have learned many new lessons. It has brought a new song to our heart. Let’s seek to sing to the Lord always with great joy.
