Showing Our Support For Our Friends Going Away
This Saturday, a special farewell programme has been planned for our friends going overseas. It will be held at 5pm at the Church Sanctuary. Anastasia Ong will be going away to Sydney to study. Evangeline Ho will be flying off in the near future to Edinburgh. Cheryln and Cherisse Chew will be migrating to Canada. It is times like this that we want to show our support for our friends. As fellow Christians, it is good for us to show that we care and are standing by them. Let’s seek to remember them and to show our support for them by coming for this special programme.
Taking Time To Thank God For Friends
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you”
Philippians 1:3
A good example of what a friend should be was the apostle Paul. He sought to cultivate
deep friendships with his fellow Christians. Paul had a good healthy friendship with the Philippian Church. He had loving memories of their fellowship and their relationship. There was great gratitude to God every time he thought of them. When we have good memories of dear Christian friends, we can truly thank God for them.
Keeping Friends In Prayer
“Always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy”
Philippians 1:4
Paul was in prison at the point of time when he wrote his letter to the Philippians. And yet, he was still able to pray for the Philippians with a great sense of joy. He was in chains (and may have been physically abused), but he had made it a personal practice to pray for his friends. He prayed for the Philippians with joy and concern. Let’s pray for our friends as they go overseas. They all need the Lord’s grace and protection each day. Let’s not take these things for granted. Let’s keep them much in prayer.
Trusting God’s Continuing Work In Their Lives
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6
As our friends go away, our confidence is that the Lord will continue to work in their lives. Paul had this deep confidence that what God had started in the Philippian Church would be completed when the Lord Jesus comes for them. This was Paul’s confidence and it brought much joy to his heart as he prayed. The Lord will do a definite work in their lives. As our friends go overseas, we want to wish them all the best. More than that, we pray and trust that God will continue this work of moulding their lives.
