The Reality Of Becoming A New Creation In Christ
Change is never an easy thing to do. However, it is not something that is impossible to achieve. Paul reasoned with the Corinthian Church that if a person is in the Lord Jesus Christ, he will change. He is a new creation.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
This is a conditional sentence. When the “If” clause is true, the main clause must also be true. Having genuine faith in the Lord Jesus causes us to really change. If we truly are in Christ, He will transform us. Our former sinful ways will be set aside. We will be able to cultivate newness of life. The Lord will create something wonderful and new in our lives. There is the reality of becoming a new creation in Christ.
Powerful Factors That Would Cause Us To Change
What are some of the powerful factors that will help us change?
1. The Love Of Christ Causes Us To Change
“For the love of Christ compels us”
2 Corinthians 5:14
Love is a powerful force. It can cause a person to change and be transformed. In this case, it is the love of Christ that motivates and coerces us to change. The Lord Jesus had showed His great love to us by dying on the cross for our sins. When we truly appreciate the love of the Lord, we will seek to change. Love makes us a new creation.
2. Living For Christ Causes Us To Change
“And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.”
2 Corinthians 5:15
Since the Lord Jesus died for us, we are indebted to Him. He has given us the greatest gift of eternal life. We owe Him our lives. We should live no longer for ourselves. Our will is no longer primary in our daily life. We should seek to please our living Saviour first. Our lives should now be centred on Him rather than ourselves.
Taking Definite Steps To Change
Young people, let’s take definite steps to change. Let’s seek to put aside our old ways. Let’s seek to be a new creation. The Lord is going to work in our lives till we become what He has wants us to be. Let’s be committed to change and to walk in His ways.
