BEING LIKE-MINDED

The Challenge To Be Like-Minded

From time to time, difficulties between members within a Church will arise. The Philippian Church was no exception. There were two female servants of God who were having some form of row between themselves. With this in mind, Paul had to teach the Church what it meant to have a greater sense of like-mindedness.

“By being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”
Philippians 2:2

It is vital that a Church learns to be one in all its ways. They were meant to have the same kind of love for each other. They were meant to be of one spirit and to have singularity of purpose in all that they did. As we serve in whatever capacity in Church, let’s always seek to be like-minded.

Great Impetus To Be Like-Minded

“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy” 
Philippians 2:1-2

The Philippians had every reason to be of one accord. Paul appealed to their practice of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If they understood what it meant to be encouraged in Christ, to have experienced good Christian love, to have fellowship of the Spirit with each other and the cultivation of virtues like affection and mercy, they would seek to be one. Paul also made a personal request for them to be like-minded so that great joy would come to his heart. Young people, we too have every reason to be like-minded. It brings joy to hearts when we have such a mindset.

Rejection Of The Things That Wrong And Unworthy

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit … let each of you look out not only for his own interests” 
Philippians 2:3-4

If we seek to be like-minded, then we must reject all that is selfish and self-centred. We will not do things for our own selfish reasons nor will we only look out for our own interests in service. We must reject all intentions that are wrong and unworthy.

Cultivating A Great Sense Of Humility Towards Each Other

“But in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself … but also for the interests of others.” 
Philippians 2:3-4

Furthermore, we will cultivate a great sense of humility by thinking humbly of ourselves. We will readily regard others better than ourselves. We will also learn to put the interests of others first before ours. Let’s cultivate this great humility towards each other as we serve the Lord during this Christmas time and always.
