(I) THE ANGEL OF THE LORD
1. He first manifested Himself to Hagar (Genesis 16)
2. He now manifests Himself to Moses (Exodus 3:2)
3. The Angel of the LORD is Deity Himself
4. He is the Pre-incarnate Christ
“Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting” Micah 5:2
(II) THE LORD INTRODUCING HIMSELF TO MOSES
1. His name
“I am the God of your father- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob” Exodus 3:6
a) The same God of the patriarchs
b) A God of great historical antiquity
c) A known and proven God
d) A God to be re-discovered
i) By Moses
ii) By the children of Israel
e) A personal God
i) To Abraham
ii) To Isaac
iii) To Jacob
iv) And now to Moses as well
2. His Presence
“Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5
a) He is holy
b) In His presence the very ground is holy
c) He is not to be approached thoughtlessly
d) He is to be given due reverence
(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE
1. Moses hid his face
2. He feared God (Exodus 3:7)
3. To discover afresh “the fear of the Lord”
