(I) THE PROFUNDITY OF GOD’S DECLARATION “I AM WHO I AM”
“I AM WHO I AM.” Exodus 3:14
1. With regards to God as a person
a) God is unfathomable
b) God is eternal
2. With regards to God’s name
a) The authority of God’s name
“I AM” has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14
b) The perpetuity of God’s name
“This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.” Exodus 3:15
(II) THE PROBLEM OF STRUGGLING WITH EXERCISING FAITH IN GOD AND HIS NAME
1. Having knowledge of God and His name as Lord
“The Lord God of your Fathers…” Exodus 3:16
“The Lord God of the Hebrews…” Exodus 3:18
2. Not exercising faith in God as Lord
a) See oneself as not eloquent (Exodus 4:10)
b) Wanted someone else to be sent (Exodus 4:13)
c) Spoke in the Lord’s name and yet not successful (Exodus 5:23)
3. Still not applying the greatness of God’s name
(III) THE PROCESS OF KNOWING GOD’S NAME IN A DEEPER WAY
1. Going beyond the name “Almighty God” (Exodus 6:2-3)
2. God revealing Himself further through His covenantal name “LORD”
3. Discovering further the Lordship of God
“I am the Lord…” Exodus 6:2, 6, 8
a) God will establish His covenant (Exodus 6:4)
b) God will deliver and redeem with great power (Exodus 6:6)
c) God will relate to His people as their God (Exodus 6:7)
d) God will give His heritage (Exodus 6:8)
(IV) PERSONAL AND APPROPRIATE RESPONSES
1. Standing in awe of the Lord’s profound name
2. Learning never to limit God
3. Knowing the Lord and His name in a deeper way
4. Practising the Lordship of God
