Reaching Out To Others

A most important consideration
“Have you ever led someone to the Lord before?” For many of us, the answer is probably “No”. We are probably still working on our faith…to grow and develop our walk with the Lord. And reaching out or winning someone to the Lord is something that we are not as conscious of as we should be.
Yet it is something that really should be given greater consideration in the development of our life and service to the Lord.
Our 21st YAG Retreat
For our first Retreat as we enter into the next decade of the ministry of the YAG Retreat, our focus will be on the work of soul winning. The theme will be “The Great Commission” and it will be held on the 26th and 27th of June 2015.
Pastor Charles felt that it was a timely emphasis for the YAG and for the church. I thought that it was indeed a most appropriate theme for us to explore further and to go deeper into.
Reason for this timely theme
The following are my reasons that all of us should really consider coming for this Retreat and to learn more Biblical truths concerning the work of evangelism.
1. A lack of understanding
“How do I reach out to my friend? Even though I’ve been a Christian for many years, I still don’t know how to share my faith with my friend.” This was a question that I was asked not too long ago. And I recognize that this person is probably not alone in having this lack of understanding. While I have sought to answer this person’s question, this Retreat will give all of us a more complete understanding as to how we should reach out.
2. Much false understanding
It is with increasing concern that I learn of the many truncated and false ways that are being employed by others for the work of reaching out. “Jesus is a one-way ticket to heaven. Just believe in Jesus and you will go to heaven”. Such simplistic and watered-down understanding of knowing Christ should be avoided. Our hope is to develop a full understanding of what we are called to do as the Lord Jesus taught in the Great Commission, and not to do any less.
3. In fear of the Lord
“Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.” (2 Cor 5:11) The word “terror” means to fear. The fear of the Lord is connected to how we need to give an account of ourselves one day. It is with this fear that we should seek to persuade our loved ones or friends to consider knowing the Lord. Let us seek to do our part to learn and to continuously reach out till they come to know the Lord.
4. Looking ahead to Bethany IV
Soon, the A & A works for Bethany IV will begin. Our 21st YAG Retreat will be our last major event for Bethany III. Our hope is that as we go deeper in our understanding, we would seek to reach out to many more. Our potential to grow further as a church will increase with the building of Bethany IV. Let us be challenged to sign up and to learn at the YAG Retreat that we may reach out with greater understanding and to truly win souls to the Lord.
