He Instructs The Remnant In Right Judgement

The Problem Of Having No Wisdom And Judgment
One thing that many young people lack today is spiritual discernment. They do not know how to discern between what is truly good and excellent and what is not. They lack sound judgment in life. This was something that the prophet Isaiah wrote about in the text of Isaiah 28. Some of the priests and the prophets were so caught up with being intoxicated with wine that they did not seek God for spiritual understanding. They erred in their vison and they stumbled in judgment (Isaiah 28:7). They had departed from the way that the Lord had prescribed for them. As such, there was also the great lack of spiritual understanding and judgment among all the leaders and the people of Israel. Despite this, the Lord would ensure that a remnant of His people would still hold fast to Him and will learn and find discernment. Young people, let’s consider what it means to be part of God’s people today who will seek spiritual acuity.
Gaining Knowledge One Truth At A Time
“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little.”
Isaiah 28:10
The gaining of knowledge of God and His word can be a slow, progressive and sometimes “painful” process. The remnant of God’s people would survive the judgment that the Lord would bring on the land of Israel. While in exile, they will learn the ways of the Lord all over again. They will learn things the hard way. They will learn one precept at a time. A precept is a truth principle or a rule. The remnant would learn each precept by studying the different aspects of it. Each aspect would have to be learnt a little at a time. Once they know a precept, they will build on it by learning another one. And the process continues until they have a deeper knowledge of God. There are no shortcuts to obtaining knowledge. Weaning from mother’s milk for a baby can be a difficult and painful process (Isaiah 28:9). Even so, gaining knowledge can also be a challenging one.
Laying A Foundation Of Truth And Righteousness Against Falsehood
“Therefore thus says the Lord God:
‘Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation,
A tried stone, a precious stone, a sure foundation;
Whoever believes will not act hastily.'”
Isaiah 28:16
Isaiah wrote of how the Lord will lay a precious stone for a foundation. Whoever believes in the Lord will live his life differently. He will not act hastily as the priests and prophets did. The cornerstone will become a solid guide for one’s life and ministry. On the one hand, the rulers deceived themselves with falsehood that death would not touch them (Isaiah 28:15). On the other hand, truth would prevail when the Lord’s judgment does come and they would be trampled down (Isaiah 28:18). The challenge for the remnant was to build on the foundation of truth rather than lies.
Learning Great Discernment From The Lord
“When he has levelled its surface,
Does he not sow the black cummin
And scatter the cummin … ?
For He instructs him in right judgment,
His God teaches him.”
Isaiah 28:25-26
As much as farmers were taught by the Lord to discern between the planting of different seeds, He would also teach discernment concerning life and ministry. The Lord God will teach right judgment. When we have good and basic knowledge of God and we have a foundation that guides us in truth and righteousness, there would come discernment through His further instruction. When we have that closeness with Him, He will teach us. Young people, let’s always have a heart that is ready to learn from the Lord as we dwell on His word. He will give counsel and excellent guidance. Let’s have the faith and humility to seek deep spiritual discernment from Him.
