(I) ASHAMED TO SHED TEARS?

1. Brought up not to shed tears

2. Rejecting Tears

(II) ADMISSION OF A DEEPLY TROUBLED HEART

1. Weakness in the flesh

“Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak” Psalm 6:2a

2. Trouble of the flesh

“O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled” Psalm 6:2b

3. Trouble of the soul

“My soul is also greatly troubled” Psalm 6:3a

4. When God does not seem to hear prayers

“But You, O LORD, how long-?” Psalm 6:3b

5. Fearful thoughts of death

“For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks? Psalm 6:6:5

6. Unbidden Tears

“I am weary with my groaning;
All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears
My eye wastes away because of its grief;
It grows old because of my enemies” Psalm 6:6-7
“My tears have been my food day and night” Psalm 42:3a

(III) ASSURANCE IN GOD

1. Tears will not last forever

“Weeping may endure for a night
But joy comes in the morning” Psalm 30:5

2. Prayers are never offered in vain

“For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping,
The LORD has heard my supplication.
The LORD has heard my supplication
The LORD will receive my prayer” Psalm 6:8b-9

3. Battling dark thoughts and feelings

“Why are you cast down, O my soul,
And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God,
For I shall yet praise Him,
The Help of my countenance and my God” Psalm 42:11
