THE REMNANT SHALL RETURN

(I) THE PROMISE OF THE REMNANT TO RETURN

1. A promise to allow for a return

“That the remnant of Israel,” Isaiah 10:20
“The remnant of the Lord will return” Isaiah 10:21
“A remnant of them will return” Isaiah 10:22

2. A promise to be fulfilled in time

“And it shall come to pass in that day” Isaiah 10:20

3. A promise of escape from the judgment

“And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob,” Isaiah 10:20

(II) PROVISION FOR THE RETURN ALREADY GIVEN IN THE COVENANTAL PROMISES

1. The return of the remnant was based on the covenant given by the Lord to Moses.

(Deuteronomy 4:27-3)

2. The Lord had provided for a return in His covenant.

(III) PERSPECTIVE OF THE REMNANT ON THEIR RETURN

1. Complete Faith in God

a) Never to depend on others

“Will never again depend on him who defeated them,” Isaiah 10:20

b) Full dependence on God

“But will depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel,” Isaiah 10:20

2. Far wiser with truth

“In truth.” Isaiah 10:20

3. The faithful few

a) Not looking for a mass return

“For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea,” Isaiah 10:22

b) The number of those returning will be very small

“A remnant of them will return;” Isaiah 10:22

(IV) PERSONAL RESPONSE TO RETURN TO THE LORD

1. Come back to God

“The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.” Isaiah 10:21

2. Confess our straying to the Lord

3. Cultivation of full faith in the Lord

4. Continuing in the true ways of the Lord
