(I) A VITAL HISTORICO-THEOLOGICAL STATEMENT

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

1. A solemn word from God to king Solomon

a) In response to the prayer of Solomon

b) At the dedication of the Temple

2. A great promise

a) God will hear prayers

b) God will forgive sins

c) God will heal the land

3. Contingent upon the following

a) God’s people called by His name

b) Humbling of self

c) Praying and seeking of God

(II) ANOTHER GREAT SERIES OF PROMISES

“Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory;I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” Isaiah 43:7

1. Created to glorify God

2. Called by God’s name

3. Clarification of the promises:-

a) Presence of God

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” Isaiah 43:2a

b) Protection of God

“…When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned…” Isaiah 43:2c

c) Honour and love

“Since you were precious in My sight,You have been honoured And I have loved you…” Isaiah 43:4

(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

1. Banishment of Fear

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you…” Isaiah 43:1

“Fear not, for I am with you…” Isaiah 43:5

2. Bearing witness

“You are My witnesses, says the LORD…” Isaiah 43:10a

3. Serving the Lord

“…And My servant whom I have chosen…” Isaiah 43:10b

4. Declaring God’s praise

“This people I have formed for Myself;They shall declare My praise.” Isaiah 43:21
