My righteous Servant shall Justify Many
Text: Isaiah 53:1-12

(I) THE SUFFERING OF THE MESSIAH-SERVANT
“He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.” Isaiah 53:3
“The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised the third day.” Luke 9:22
(II) HIGH PURPOSE BEHIND SUFFERING
“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.” Isaiah 53:4
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement of our peace was upon Him.
And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
1. Vicarious suffering
Suffering on our behalf!
“…You make His soul an offering for sin…” Isaiah 53:10
“…He shall bear their iniquities.” Isaiah 53:11
2. Atonement for our sins
a) The grief that comes from our sins
“…borne our griefs…” Isaiah 53:4
b) The sorrows that come with sin
“…carried our sorrows…” Isaiah 53:4
c) The transgressions that alienate us from God
“…wounded for our transgressions…” Isaiah 53:5
d) The iniquities that bring death
“…bruised for our iniquities…” Isaiah 53:5
e) The abominable sins that bring about enmity with God
“…chastisement for our peace was upon Him…” Isaiah 53:5
f) The deadly sins that wound our souls
“…And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
(III) THE RESULTS OF THE SUFFERING OF THE MESSIAH-SERVANT
“…My righteous Servant shall justify many..” Isaiah 53:11
“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin.” Romans 4:7-8
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2
1. Justification
a) Lawless deeds forgiven
b) Sins covered
c) Sin and its penalty not imputed
d) Peace with God
e) Access to God
f) Hope of Glory
2. Justification by the grace of God
“For by grace you have been saved…” Ephesians 2:8
3. Justification by faith
“…been justified by faith…” Romans 5:1
a) Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is required
b) As many as have this faith in Christ will be justified by God
