(I) THE SUFFERING OF THE LORD JESUS PROPHESIED

(II) VICARIOUS NATURE OF HIS SUFFERING
“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows…” Isaiah 53:4
“But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities;The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
1. Bore our griefs
2. Carried our sorrows
3. Wounded for our transgressions
4. Bruised for our iniquities
5. Chastised for our peace
(III) AN ASTUTE OBSERVATION
“For when we were without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Much more then, having now been justified by His blood , we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” Romans 5:6-9
1. Scarcely would one die even for a righteous man
2. Christ’s death for the ungodly is an astounding truth
3. It was the profound love of God that saw Him send Jesus to die for our sins
4. The purpose was to save us from Divine wrath meted our against sinners
(IV) RAMIFICATIONS OF CHRIST’S VICARIOUS DEATH
“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.And not only that, but we also rejoice in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” Romans 5:10-11
1. Enemies of God no more!
2. Reconciliation effected!
3. Saved by His life!
4. Rejoicing in God!
