THE VICTORY THAT OVERCOMES THE WORLD

(I) THE PROMISE OF VICTORY

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God…” 1 John 5:1

“And whatever is born of God overcomes the world…” 1 John 5:4a

“Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:5

1. Our knowledge

2. Our faith

3. Our relationship with the Lord

(II) THE PROCLAMATION OF VICTORY OVER THE WORLD

“And this is the victory that has overcome the world- our faith.” 1 John 5:4b

1. That which needs to be overcome: The world

2. The things that make up the world (1 John 2:15)

a) The lust of the flesh

b) The lust of the eyes

c) The pride of life

3. How does faith help us gain victory over the world?

a) Faith teaches us not to love the world

b) Faith teaches us not to live for the things of the world that are passing away

c) Faith enables us not to be controlled by the things of the world

(III) POWER OF FAITH

1. Great power is to be found in the exercise of our faith

2. This power is to be drawn from the Lord Jesus through our faith exercised

3. This power is truly great!

a) It overcomes sin

b) It overcomes the world

c) It overcomes Satan

(IV) POSER: HOW DO WE FIND THAT FAITH?

1. A strong Faith and the Word of God are inextricably related (Romans 10:17)

2. A solid faith will demand much:-

a) Time

b) Diligence

c) Effort
