(I) A CHILD SPECIALLY PRAYED FOR
“For this child I prayed…” 1 Samuel 1:27
1. Hannah’s prayer to God
a) Manner of prayer
i) With great bitterness of soul ( 1 Samuel 1:10 )
ii) With tears of anguish ( 1 Samuel 1:10 )
iii) With pouring out of her soul before God ( 1 Samuel 1:15 )
b) Content of Prayer
i) Praying for a male child ( 1 Samuel 1:11 )
ii) Dedicating of son in prayer ( 1 Samuel 1:11 )
c) Finding peace in God after prayer ( 1 Samuel 1:18 )
2. God’s answer to prayer
a) The Lord remembered her ( 1 Samuel 1:19 )
b) Hannah conceived and bore a son ( 1 Samuel 1:20 )
(II) A CHILD SPECIALLY DEDICATED TO GOD
1. Decision made for Samuel to serve the Lord forever
“Then I will take him, that he may appear before the Lord and remain there forever.” 1 Samuel 1:22
2. Personally raising him up till he was weaned
“Then the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.” 1 Samuel 1:21
3. Lent to the Lord for the rest of his life.
“As long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:28
(III) A CHILD TO BE ESTABLISHED AS A SERVANT OF GOD
“Do what seems best to you; wait until you weaned him. Only let the Lord establish His word.” 1 Samuel 1:23
1. He learnt to listen to the voice of God (1 Samuel 3)
2. He learnt to speak the words of God (1 Samuel 3:20)
3. He brought the word of God to Israel (1 Samuel 3:21-41)
4. His ministry turned around the whole nation of Israel (1 Samuel 7:2-3, 5)
(IV) THE CHALLENGE TO IMPACT OUR CHILDREN
1. To pray for them
2. To be committed in raising them up well
3. To dedicate them to the Lord
4. To see our children become established in life and, prayerfully, in ministry
