(I) GOD’S KIND OF LOVE

“This is love, that we walk according to His commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.” 2 John 6

1. As taught by Jesus

“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” 1 John 15:10

a) Love is keeping Jesus’ commandments

b) Love is abiding in Him and in His love

2. As exemplified by the apostle John

a) Love in truth ( 2 John 1 )

b) Loving one another ( 2 John 3 )

c) Walking according to His commandments ( 2 John 6 )

(II) FALSE KIND OF LOVE

1. Spread by false teachers

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.” 2 John 7

“In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practise righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.” 1 John 3:10

a) Exposed by the apostle John

b) Described as:-

i) A deceiver

ii) An antichrist

2. The message taught by these false teachers

a) They deny Jesus

b) They deny the need to walk in the truth/ in righteousness

c) They deny the need to love one another

(III) A SPECIAL WORD OF ADMONITION

“Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.” 2 John 8

1. Look to yourselves

a) Watch out

b) Be diligent

2. We do not lose those things we worked for

a) The effort put in to develop our faith

b) The energy poured in to develop our ministry

3. That we may receive a full reward

a) A full reward awaits all who finish the race

b) We must guard ourselves and ensure that we do not fall from grace because of false teachings
