(I) EXCITING PROPHETIC VISION OF THE DIVINE SHEPHERD (EZEKIEL 34:11-31)

1. Jesus as the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep (John 10)

2. Jesus as the Good Shepherd in the Messianic Kingdom that will be established

(II) EXQUISITE FEATURES OF THE DIVINE SHEPHERD

1. As a Shepherd who seeks out lost sheep (Ezekiel 34:11-13; Luke 15:1-7)

a) Gathering of the Jews who were scattered (diaspora)

b) Bringing them back to their homeland

2. As a Shepherd committed to feeding the flock (Ezekiel 34:13-15)

3. As a Shepherd committed to protecting the flock (Ezekiel 34:13-15)

4. As a Shepherd committed to tending to the flock (Ezekiel 34:16)

(III) ESTABLISHING OF ONE SHEPHERD

1. He will be called “My servant David” (Ezekiel 34:23)

a) Not the historical David

b) The Messianic title of Jesus

c) He is also called “Prince” ( Ezekiel 34:24 )

2. He will be appointed the Divine Shepherd

a) He will fulfill all Biblical prophecies

b) He will have a special “Covenant of peace” ( Ezekiel 34:25 )

c) God’s flock will forever dwell in safety ( Ezekiel 34:25-31 )

(IV) EXHORTATION TO LOOK AFTER GOD’S FLOCK (1 PETER 5:1-4)

1. Shepherding the flock as Jesus the Chief Shepherd would have us to do (1 Peter 5:2, 4)

2. Serving as overseers (1 Peter 5:2)

3. Setting a good example (1 Peter 5:3)
