I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOUR NAME, O MOST HIGH

(I) PERSONAL DETERMINATION TO HAVE A SPIRIT OF PRAISE

“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart, I will tell of all Your marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High” Psalm 9:1-2

1. The emphasis on “I will”

2. The choice to focus on God and His name

3. The determination to sing to God

a) Determining to sing with fullness of heart and soul

b) Determining to sing with gladness of heart in God despite problems

c) Determining to sing to lift up the Lord’s name

(II) POWERFUL REASONS THAT FUEL THIS SPIRIT OF PRAISE

1. Having a growing regard for God and His name

a) Knowing the Lord’s name

“And those who know Your name…” Psalm 9:10

i) “Lord” ( Psalm 9:1 )

ii) “O Most High” ( Psalm 9:2 )

iii) “Just Judge” ( Psalm 7:11 )

b) Honouring the Lord’s name

“O Lord, Our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth…” Psalm 8:1

2. Cultivating a close relationship of faith with God

a) Faith in God as refuge

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 9:9

b) Faith enough to trust God

“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You.” Psalm 9:10

3. Experiencing the continuing Reality of God’s help

a) Past

“You who lift me up from the gates of death” Psalm 9:13

b) Promise

“For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:10

(III) PUTTING IN EFFORT TO PRACTISE THIS SPIRIT OF PRAISE

1. Encouragement to sing to the Lord

“Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.” Psalm 9:11

2. Having a sense of purpose to praise the Lord

“That I may tell of all Your praise.” Psalm 9:14
