(I) THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT
1. The most significant covenant in the Old Testament
2. It deserves careful study
(II) THE CALL OF ABRAHAM
1. Original name was Abram (Genesis 11:31)
2. Father of Abraham was called Terah (Genesis 11:31)
3. City of Origin
Ur of the Chaldeans (Mesopotania) (Genesis 11:31)
4. Planned to migrate to Canaan (Genesis 11:31)
5. Ended up dwelling in Haran (still quite far from Canaan) (Genesis 11:31)
(III) FAMILY TREE OF TERAH
1. Terah
Three sons (Genesis 11:27)
a) Abram
b) Nahor
c) Haran (died in Ur of Chaldee) (Genesis 11:28)
2. Abram
Married Sarai (Genesis 11:29).
Barren thus childless.
3. Nahor
Married Milcah (Genesis 11:29).
She was the daughter of Haran.
Had an offspring called Iscah
4. Haran
Had two children
a) Milcah (Genesis 11:29)
b) Lot (Genesis 11:31)
5. Death of Terah
a) Age: 205
b) At Haran (Genesis 11:32)
(IV) GOD’S CALL OF ABRAM
1. To leave
a) Country (Genesis 12:1b)
b) Family (Genesis 12:1c)
2. To go to a new land
Land of promise (Genesis 12:1d)
3. Promise given to Abram
a) God will make him into a great nation (Genesis 12:2a)
b) Firm promise of blessing (Genesis 12:2b)
c) God will make a great name for Abram (Genesis 12:2c)
d) Abram will be a blessing to others (Genesis 12:2d)
i) God will bless those who bless Abram (Genesis 12:3a)
ii) He will curse those who curse Abram (Genesis 12:3b)
iii) God’s blessings on Abram will flow to all families (Genesis 12:3c)
(V) ABRAM’S RESPONSE TO THIS DIVINE CALL
1. Obedience from Abram
2. Family
a) Sarai
b) Lot (Nephew) (Genesis 12:4)
3. Departed from Haran and came to Canaan (Genesis 12:6)
(VI) GOD’S APPEARANCE TO ABRAM
Promise of the land of Canaan to Abram’s descendants confirmed (Genesis 12:7a)
(VII) ABRAM’S WORSHIP OF GOD
1. First altar erected at Shechem (Genesis 12:6, 7)
2. Second altar erected at Bethel (Genesis 12:8)
