Good Advice To Hear The Word Well
How we hear the word of God is going to determine the way it impacts our faith. When we do not listen to it with proper regard, there will not be much effect on our faith and life. Young people, if we want to find certainty in His word and in life, let’s start by listening to this good advice to hear the word of the wise well.
- Hearing And Internalising Words Of Wisdom
“Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise,
And apply your heart to my knowledge;
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you …”
Proverbs 22:17-18
The person who seeks to know truth and be certain of it must first be willing to learn. He would seek to incline his ear towards hearing words of wisdom and to take heed to them. He would open his heart to the word and apply it to his life. Knowledge of the word will be treasured and kept within him. This is indeed a pleasant thing to do.
- Learning To Constantly Speak About The Word
“… Let them all be fixed upon your lips …”
Proverbs 22:19
When the words of the Lord are a part of us, it would be natural to speak of them. Such words of wisdom should be established on our lips. We would learn to constantly speak of them to others because it is so much a part of us.
- Placing Our Full Trust In The Lord And His Word
“… So that your trust may be in the Lord …”
Proverbs 22:19
There is also the challenge to place our full trust in the Lord as we apply the word in our life. We would be inspired to engage trust in Him and His word and to commit all things into His hands.
Being Instructed Further With Excellent Words
“… I have instructed you today, even you!
Have I not written to you excellent things
Of counsels and knowledge,
That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth,
That you may answer words of truth
To those who send to you?”
Proverbs 22:20-21
The writer of this passage from Proverbs also sought to instruct his readers further. He sought to teach excellent words of counsels and knowledge that his hearers may be trained further. When we are instructed with excellent words, we would be able to have greater spiritual acuity. We would be able to discern between what is excellent and what is not … between what is truth and what is not. In the text of Hebrews 5:14, the writer of Hebrews wrote of how when we use our spiritual senses well, we would be able to discern between good and evil. There would be greater spiritual maturity. There would come greater certainty in the words of truth. Furthermore, with this certainty, we would be able to answer words of truth to those who question our faith. We would be unafraid to do so. The apostle Peter also wrote of how we should sanctify the Lord God in our heart and be always ready to give to everyone a reason for the hope that is within us with meekness and fear (1 Peter 3:15). Young people, let’s seek to learn and be instructed in the excellent things of counsels and knowledge. Let’s seek to give good answers to those who ask us about our faith.
