We Have Come To Worship Him

THE INCLUSION OF THE STORY OF THE WISE MEN

One of the most remarkable narratives included in the Christmas story is that of the Wise Men. What were some of the reasons why Matthew included the Wise Men in the birth narrative of the Lord Jesus Christ?

1. The Example of the Worship of the Wise Men

a) What a tremendous example the Wise Men set

b) Their example is truly worth emulating

2. The focus on Worship

a) This was remarkable

b) They came to Jerusalem looking for the Baby King

c) They had come especially to offer worship

“We have come to worship Him” Matthew 2:2

3. The trouble they took to offer worship

a) They travelled a long distance

b) They had to experience the following:-

i) A long journey

ii) Danger on the road

iii) Great personal inconvenience

4. Appropriate expressions of worship

a) Knowledge of the Baby Jesus- that He was born to be a King

b) Faith in the Baby Jesus- that He was indeed worthy of worship

c) Bringing of suitable gifts to the Baby King

i) Gold

ii) Frankincense

iii) Myrrh

HOW SHOULD WE WORSHIP THE LORD JESUS TODAY?

Let us take time to offer worship to the Lord Jesus as the Wise Men did!

1. With understanding

2. With faith

3. With love

4. With joy

Let us not allow our hearts to become complacent in our worship of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let there be a renewed sense of joy and vigour in our worship this Christmas!
