Text: Psalm 78

Subject: Passing down a glorious faith in God from one generation to another

1. A Personal Declaration from Asaph    Psalm 78:1-4

a)    To teach                        Psalm 78:1-3

b)    To pass down                     Psalm 78:1-3

c)    To teach the next generation the praises of God        Psalm 78:4

2. A commandment from the Lord to teach the next generation(s)    Psalm 78:5-8

a)    That they may know the Word of God            Psalm 78:5-6

b)    That they may set their hope in God            Psalm 78:7

c)    That that they may not forget the works of God        Psalm 78:7

d)    That they keep His commandments            Psalm 78:7

e)    That they may not be like their fathers            Psalm 78:8

3. Remembering the sins of Israel

a)    They did not keep the covenant of God            Psalm 78:10

b)    They refused to walk in His law                Psalm 78:10

c)    They forgot His works    /wonders            Psalm 78:11

d)    They sinned even more against Him            Psalm 78:17

e)    By rebelling against the Most High            Psalm 78:17

f)    They tested God in their heart                 Psalm 78:18

g)    Yes, they spoke against God                Psalm 78:19

h)    They did not believe in God                Psalm 78:22

i)    And did not believe in His salvation            Psalm 78:22

j)    Did not believe in His wondrous works            Psalm 78:32

k)    They flattered Him with their mouth            Psalm 78:36

l)    They lied to Him with their tongue            Psalm 78:36

m)    Their heart was not steadfast with Him            Psalm 78:37

n)    Nor were faithful in His covenant            Psalm 78:37

o)    How often they provoked Him in the wilderness        Psalm 78:40

p)    And grieved Him in the desert                Psalm 78:40

q)    Yes, again and again they tested God            Psalm 78:41

r)    And limited the Holy One of Israel            Psalm 78:41

s)    They did not remember His power            Psalm 78:42

t)    Yet they tested and provoked the Most High God    Psalm 78:56

u)    And did not keep His testimonies            Psalm 78:56

v)    But turned back and acted unfaithfully            Psalm 78:57

w)    They were like deceitful bows                Psalm 78:57

x)    They provoked Him to anger with their high places    Psalm 78:58

y)    And moved Him to jealousy with their carved images    Psalm 78:58

4. Appreciating the Lord

a)    The plagues in Egypt            Psalm 78:12

b)    The crossing of the Red Sea        Psalm 78:13

c)    His Presence by day and night        Psalm 78:14
