THE MANIFESTATION OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD

(Exodus 19:16)

1. Thunder

2. Lightning

3. Thick cloud

4. Loud trumpet sound

MOSES AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

1. Israel

a) They heard and saw
b) They trembled   (Exodus 19:17)

2. Moses

a) They were brought out of their camp
b) They were brought to meet the Lord
c) They stood at the foot of the mountain   (Exodus 19:17)

MOUNT SINAI

1. Completely engulfed in smoke

2. Smoke descended on the mountain

3. Fire descended on the mountain

Like smoke from a furnace

4. The whole mountain quaked

5. The Lord had descended on the mountain

6. Trumpet sound- long and loud   (Exodus 19:18-19)

MOSES AND GOD

1. Moses spoke to God   (Exodus 19:19)

a) To present the children of Israel to God
b) To announce his presence and that of the children of Israel

2. God answered Moses   (Exodus 19:19)

a) By voice
b) All would have heard God’s voice audibly
c) Acceptance of the presence of Moses and the children of Israel
d) Invitation to Moses to ascend Mount Sinai   (Exodus 19:20)

A SPECIAL WORD OF WARNING

1. To the children of Israel

a) Go down and warn the people   (Exodus 19:21)
b) Lest they break through to gaze at the LORD   (Exodus 19:21)
c) People in danger of being struck to death   (Exodus 19:21)

2. To the priests

a) The priests are to especially consecrate themselves   (Exodus 19:22)
b) Lest they incur the wrath of the Lord   (Exodus 19:22)

THE PROTEST OF MOSES

1. The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai   (Exodus 19:23)

2. The word of warning had already been given   (Exodus 19:23)

3. Boundaries has already been set up   (Exodus 19:23)

4. Moses may have been overly confident about the security measures

5. He may have been too confident that the children of Israel would comply

INSISTENCE FROM THE LORD

1. Moses He must go down and bring this word of warning to the people

a) Away! And Get down   (Exodus 19:24)
b) And then come up   (Exodus 19:24)

2. Aaron may come up with him   (Exodus 19:24)

3. The priests and the people   (Exodus 19:24)

They are not to come up to the mountain

4. Moses obeyed   (Exodus 19:25)
