WRONG IDEAS OF GOD

What is in our mind when we offer prayers to God? Sometimes, we are guilty of having wrong or defective thoughts about God when we pray. Let us consider some of these wrong thoughts:-

1. God is seen as a Santa Claus who gives presents.

2. God is feared as One who is perpetually angry with us.

3. God is so distant that He is remotely involved with the affairs of man.

IMPORTANT TO HAVE A STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF GOD

Paul maintained a very strong understanding of God in life and ministry. His idea of God remained steady even as he poured out his heart to Him in intercessory prayer. Let us take note of the way he always saw God.

1. God as the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3; 3:14)

2. God as One full of Glory (Ephesians 1:6, 12; 3:16, 21)

3. God as One who blesses His children (Ephesians 1:3-14)

4. God as One full of grace (Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-9)

5. God as One full of love (Ephesians 1:4; 2:4; 3:17-19)

6. God as One who possesses limitless power (Ephesians 1:19; 3:20)

OUR UNDERSTANDING OF GOD WILL AFFECT THE WAY WE PRAY

There are many reasons why Paul prayed the way he did. His knowledge of God affected the very manner in which he prayed. Because of his deep and profound knowledge of God, Paul was able to pray thus:-

1. There was no unbelief

2. There were no doubts

3. There were no misgivings

4. There was firm faith in God

5. There was strong sense of assurance that he was praying within the confines of God’s will.
