Day 204

"One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

Text: Ephesians 4:6

WONDERFUL WORDS OF ADORATION

How did Paul feel as he wrote these words about the Father? This was the seventh and last word he wrote about that which unifies all believers. He chose to conclude this series of thoughts with words of adoration offered to the Father.

1. The wonder of being able to call God Father

a) Jesus lovingly addressed God as “Father” (Cf. John 14:16; 17:1, 17:5, 17:11 etc)
b) As people given adoption we may address God as Father too

Having predestined us to adoption as sons
by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure
of His will.
EPHESIANS 1:5

2. “Who is above all”

Paul thought of God as the almighty Sovereign over heaven and earth.

And what is the exceeding greatness of His power
toward us who believe, according to the working
of His mighty power
which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from
the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the
heavenly places,
far above all principality and power and might
and dominion, and every name that is named,
not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
EPHESIANS 1:19-21

3. “And through all, and in you all”

This concept is cryptic. What Paul had in mind may be found in the following text.

To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly
above all that we ask or think, according to the power
that works in us,
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
EPHESIANS 3:19-21

How God exactly works in us and through us is a glorious mystery. Notwithstanding our lack of full comprehension of what God can do, we may still glory in this great truth- that God the Father would work in us and through us!
