Ephesians
"Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience."
Text: Ephesians 5:6
THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST
Few subjects are as important as “the kingdom of Christ”. This was the central theme that Christ Jesus Himself proclaimed.
Jesus came…
Preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God.
MARK 1:14
INHERITANCE OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD
To all who truly believed in the Lord Jesus was given the promise of God that they would have a share of the inheritance of Christ (Cf. Ephesians 1:11; 5:5). The biggest challenge is to appreciate who the true heirs of God really are.
TRUE HEIRS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD
The apostle Paul had very clear ideas as to who was a true heir of God. Let us consider the following thoughts. Five may be highlighted:-
1. Consciousness of doing good works (Ephesians 2:10)
The true heir of the kingdom of God is aware that he is the workmanship of God. He has been re-created in Christ to do good works.
2. Consciousness of being part of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 2:18-22)
The true believer is aware that he is a member of the household of God. He desires to be a building block that contributes to the overall growth of the Church.
3. Consciousness of the need to walk worthy of God (Ephesians 4:1-6)
The true heir of the kingdom of God appreciates the nobility of his holy calling. He seeks to walk worthy of his calling.
4. Conscious of the need to put away the old man (Ephesians 4:17-32)
The true heir of the kingdom of God will not desire to walk in his old sinful ways. He will put away the “former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.” (Cf. Ephesians 4:22)
5. Conscious of the challenge to walk in the love of Christ (Ephesians 5:1-2)
All true children of God would have tasted His love. He desires to be filled with Christ’s love and to bring forth this glorious fruit of the Spirit of God.
DECEPTION EXPOSED
Deception is unable to make headway when we speak of faith in Christ in this way. Many are in danger of being deceived when the discussion is only on the subject of “having faith in Christ”. Once again, let us be reminded that “faith without works is dead” (Cf. James 2:26). May we never be deceived by “empty words”.
