Ephesians
Day
Day 296

"This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the Church."

Text: Ephesians 5:32

THE GREAT MYSTERIES OF GOD

Paul specifically camped on the word “mystery” in the following texts.

1. The mystery of our salvation and its ramifications (Cf. Ephesians 1-2; 3:3).

2. The mysteries of God are revealed by the Holy Spirit (Cf. Ephesians 3:1-5).).

3. The mystery of how the Gentiles were to be fellow-heirs with the Jews (Cf. Ephesians 3:5-9).

4. The mystery of the intimate relationship between Christ and the Church (Cf. Ephesians 5:32).

WITHOUT GOD’S REVELATION

Could Paul or any of the apostles have come up with the above ideas without the revelation of the Holy Spirit?

1. It would have been impossible for man to understand the profound plan of God’s salvation.

2. The natural man would never be able to comprehend the spiritual and eternal plans of God.

3. The idea of the Church, where both Jews and Gentiles are truly “One” would have been an impossible idea to both ethnic entities.

4. The concept of the Church as maintaining a husband-wife relationship (Christ and the Church) would be impossible to imagine if God had not revealed this to Paul.

RESPONDING TO THE MYSTERIES OF GOD

How should the church (and the individual believer) respond appropriately to these great mysteries revealed by the Holy Spirit? Let us consider the following responses:-

1. The Church must learn to treasure these great revelations.

2. The Church must learn to love the Lord for granting understanding of these revelations.

3. The Church must seek to practise the truths revealed.

4. The Church must seek to protect these great truths so graciously revealed by the Spirit of God.
