Day 323

"Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

Text: Ephesians 6:11

THE LORD AS OUR GREAT COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The Christian soldier should have no fear at all concerning the spiritual warfare that Satan wages. It is good to draw much encouragement from the following texts that describe God’s involvement in this great spiritual conflict.

1. The Lord’s personal involvement

To allay the fears of ancient Israel, as the chariots of Pharaoh pursued them, after their flight from Egypt, Moses cried out valiantly.

The LORD will fight for you…
EXODUS 14:14

2. As Commander of the army

As Joshua stood poised to conquer the land of Canaan, the pre-incarnate Christ appeared to encourage his heart.

As Commander of the army of the LORD
I have now come.
JOSHUA 5:14

THE MIGHTY ARMY OF GOD

We must never feel alone and insecure in this great and mighty conflict. No matter how strong the enemy may seem, we have an even greater spiritual army.

1. Chariots of fire

Ancient Israel from time to time was threatened by Syria. On one occasion, one of the servants of the prophet Elisha was frightened when he saw a huge host of enemy Syrian soldiers surrounding them. Calmly, Elisha uttered these words to allay the fears of his young servant.

Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than
those who are with them.
And Elisha prayed, and said,
“LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’
Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw.
And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire
all around Elisha.
2 KINGS 6:16-17

2. Powerful angels on our side

A powerful angel was sent to Daniel as he sought to understand the conflicts that would involve Israel. To Daniel, this angel gave this comforting word.

And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia…
DANIEL 10:20

Let us take heart from the reading of the above texts. We are not alone in this titanic spiritual battle. Mighty angels fight alongside us. Let us exercise great faith in the Lord as we soldier on.
