Deeply Appreciating the Work of Our Lord Jesus

THE PRIVILEGE OF APPROACHING OUR ONE TRUE GOD

In this world, there is only one God who is real and powerful. He is our Lord God Almighty and He has given us the privilege of being able to approach Him and relate to Him. Paul wrote in his first pastoral epistle concerning this matter.

“For there is one God”
1 Timothy 2:5

We can relate and exercise faith in this one and only true God in the following ways:

1. He is our Saviour who we can believe in (1 Timothy 1:1).

2. He is our heavenly Father from whom we receive grace, mercy and peace (1 Timothy 1:2).

3. He is the only wise and eternal King who is worthy to be greatly exalted (1 Timothy 1:17).

4. He desires that we pray to Him for all men and that all men should be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

This one true God has given us this wonderful privilege of relating to Him through the Lord Jesus

THE LORD JESUS AS OUR MEDIATOR

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus …”
1 Timothy 2:5

The mediator is one who intervenes between two parties to make or restore peace and relationship or to ratify a covenant. While some may speak of having other mediators in their approach to God, the Scriptures are very clear concerning the fact that we have only one mediator. And that person is the Man Jesus Christ. God has established Him as the perfect mediator through whom we can communicate and relate to God.

1. THE LORD JESUS AS OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST WHO MEDIATES FOR US IN PRAYER (HEBREWS 4:14-16)

We can pray to God through the Lord Jesus as our great High Priest. He understands and identifies with all that we feel because He was tempted as we are but without sin. He knows how best to mediate for us as we pray to Him. He is also our advocate with the Father for our sins (1 John 2:1).

2. THE LORD JESUS AS THE MEDIATOR OF A NEW COVENANT (HEBREWS 8:6, 9:15)

It is through the Lord Jesus that we have a New Covenant with God. He is the one who established this better covenant, which is different from the Old Covenant. Through Christ, this covenant is based on much better promises from God (Hebrews 8:10-12).

THE LORD JESUS AS OUR RANSOM

“… Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time”
1 Timothy 2:6

The Lord Jesus taking on His role as a mediator for us comes at a high price. He had to give His life to be a ransom for all of us. In order to be our mediator, the Lord Jesus needed to give His life for the redemption of our transgressions. He gave Himself as the propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:1-2). Only then, He could become the mediator of the New Covenant and in relating to God in prayers. This would be something that we can testify about as Paul and the others did in their time. As I write this article, I am deeply touched, appreciative and thankful for the Lord as our Mediator and ransom. Let’s treasure this privilege of praying through Him. Let’s seek to testify of Him to others.
