I WILL LOVE YOU, O LORD
Text: Psalm 18

DECLARATION OF LOVE FOR GOD
The Psalmist David had cried out to the Lord time and time again. The Lord had heard and answered his prayers according to His will. How did David respond to the Lord? His response was wonderfully inspiring. He declared his love for the LORD!
I will love You, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:1-3
HAVE YOU EVER DECLARED YOUR LOVE FOR GOD?
It would be good to ask ourselves honestly this question? Have we ever told the Lord that we love Him and we always will? Prayer is not just confession of sin. It is not limited to asking the Lord for His mercy. It involves our declaring our love for the Lord!
EVERY REASON TO LOVE THE LORD
David looked at what the Lord was to him! There were so many reasons why his heart should be filled with love for the Lord! David highlighted eight things he treasured.
- My strength
- My rock
- My fortress
- My deliverer
- My God
- My shield
- My horn of salvation
- My stronghold
EXPERIENCING THE LORD’S MERCY IN OUR LIFE
Let us recall and muse on the experience of the Lord’s mercy in our life. Let us allow these experiences to fill our hearts and minds till we can feel a sense of love for the Lord, welling up in our hearts!
I WILL CALL UPON THE LORD
The Psalmist David’s love for the Lord may be analysed and appreciated along the following lines.
- Establishing a firm relationship with the Lord as his God
- Experiencing the reality of God in his life
a) In praying to God and receiving answers from Him
b) In seeing how the Lord protected him and provided for him
- Extolling the Lord
a) In prayer
b) In praise
c) In magnifying the Lord’s name
d) In declaring a firm and strong love for the Lord
Let us be greatly challenged to cultivate a strong relationship with the Lord. May we learn how to love the Lord with all our heart, our strength and our soul!
