“My people”

Praise God for a glorious camp
The last few days has been truly amazing as we studied the book of Jeremiah at the Bethany Family Camp.
The theme “My people” has been most encouraging. Each night’s message preached by Pastor Charles was both deep and inspiring.
The word of God that was preached brought tremendous blessings to all of us as we were encouraged to consider what it means to be part of God’s people.
A truly significant concept
During the evening messages, Pastor spoke about the concept of “My people”. With each message, we began to realise the number of times God used these words “They shall be My people and I will be their God.” Each night’s message was preached with increasing significance to our lives. Let me highlight a few of them that spoke to my heart.
1. A heart to know God
“Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord.” (Jer 24:7)
As we realised that we have a damaged relationship with the Lord, there was a need for us to be restored to God. It was wonderful to know that God would give to us a heart to know Him.
He will not give up on us nor bring about a complete end to the relationship. (Jer 5:18) This was indeed a comforting word. In restoring us, God will give us a new heart to understand Him as the Lord God.
2. A mind and a heart for God’s Word
“I will put My law in their minds, and write them it on their hearts.” (Jer 31:33)
On Tuesday night, Pastor Charles gave a message that was “mind-blowing”. Even though Ephraim, who represented Israel, was no more, God was going to resurrect Ephraim (Hosea 13:14) and restore the relationship with Him.
But God did not stop there. He added a “twist” and gave to Israel the New Covenant where God was going to put His words in the minds of His people and to write them upon their hearts. It was not just a restored relationship that God was giving but a totally new one. As believers of the New Covenant, this is so true as we saw how the word of God preached was written upon our hearts. What a glorious New Covenantal relationship we have!
3. A heart to believe in God’s promises
“Call to Me and I will answer you.” (Jer 33:3)
As part of the New Covenant, God has given us promises. One of which is that when we call upon Him in prayer, He will answer us. As we face a challenging future ahead, we want to believe that nothing is too hard for the Lord. (Jer 32:27)
Whether in our individual life or in our church, let us ask for the Lord’s blessings especially as we stand at the threshold of Bethany IV. Let us truly praise and thank God for this significant concept of “My people”. Let us be challenged to live out with faith in being part of God’s people.
