"For us there is one God, the Father..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 8:6

ESTABLISHING BASICS

Paul was wise and correct in establishing the basics of the Christian faith. This foundation must be well established!

“Yet for us there is one God, the Father,
of whom are all things, and we for Him;
and one Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom are all things,
and through whom we live.”
1 Corinthians 8:6

1. “Yet for us”

a) Paul was addressing Christians.

b) He wrote with the authority of an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. “There is one God, the Father”

a) This is consistent with what we read in Deuteronomy 6:4.

b) This God of Israel is also our one and only God.

c) We call Him “Father”.

i) We are given “sonship”.

ii) Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

iii) It is through the Lord Jesus that we become children of God (John 1:12).

d) “Through whom are all things”

i) God the Father is acknowledged as the Creator.

ii) He is also the Sustainer of all things.

3. “And one Lord Jesus Christ”

a) He is Jesus the Christ (The Messiah).

b) He is acknowledged as Master and Lord.

c) To Him we give full obeisance.

4. “Through whom we live”

a) The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who has given us Life.

i) A new and abundant life

ii) Eternal life

b) Through whom we live

i) Through His grace, we are redeemed and reconciled to God.

ii) Through His word, we are enlightened and empowered for life and ministry

Without Him we are able to accomplish nothing!
