2. Through the death of Christ

a) The old man was crucified with Him (Romans 6:6)
b) The body of sin was done away with (Romans 6:6)
c) We should no longer be slaves of sin (Romans 6:6)

3. Theological significance

a) He who has died has been freed from sin (Romans 6:7)
b) If we died with Christ (Romans 6:8a)
i) Assuming that we have died with Christ
ii) Through faith in Christ
iii) This is our identification and union with Christ
c) We believe
i) There must be the exercise of faith
ii) Present faith
iii) Continuing faith

b) Death no longer has dominion over Him (Romans 6:9b)
c) For the death that He died, He died to sin once and for all (Romans 6:10a)
d) But the life that He lives, He lives to God (Romans 6:10b)

5. Important application

i) The mind must be employed (“reckon”)
ii) The will must be deployed
iii) Consistency must be maintained
iv) Dead to sin
b) But alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans6:11b)
i) In direct contrast
ii) We are to be alive to God
iii) Heart, mind, will… all alive to God
iv) Through Christ Jesus the Lord
