Post-Consecration

Going beyond consecration

Consecration is not the conclusion. This was the challenge that Pastor Charles gave to us at the last evening message of Family Camp. It would be a mistake on our part if we were to consecrate our lives and nothing comes out of it. We need to go beyond consecration to the vital things that we should do post-consecration. As we look at the life and ministry of the prophet Isaiah’s post-consecration, there are a number of steps for us to walk in.

1. Commencement

“Then the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-Jashub your son,”” (Isa 7:3) Isaiah commenced his ministry by speaking to King Ahaz concerning the threat of the kings of Syria and of Israel who would invade Judah. He brought his son “Shear-Jashub”, which means “A remnant shall return”, along as a sign to King Ahaz. Whatever God told Isaiah to say, he spoke accordingly. As we have consecrated ourselves, let us be challenged to continue to serve faithfully.

2. Courage

“Thus says the Lord God: “It shall not stand, nor shall it come to pass.”” (Isaiah 7:7) In the midst of the challenges of life and ministry, God gave a word to Isaiah and to Judah to have courage as the threats of the kings will not stand. There was a need to exercise faith, “If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.” (Isa 7:9)

3. Centrality of the Lord

“The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.

He will be as a sanctuary,” (Isa 8:13,14) The focus should be on the Lord rather than to be afraid of the threats or to be troubled. He is the Lord of the heavenly hosts and He should be hallowed. Let us be challenged to fear the Lord. He will be our sanctuary…our sanctum sanctorum. Let us be challenged to make the Lord the centre of our life and ministry.

4. Consistency

“And I will wait on the Lord, who hides His face from the house of Jacob; and I will hope in Him.” (Isa 8:17) The ministry that Isaiah was given was a hard one. He needed to do exactly what the Lord instructed him to say and to do. Isaiah learnt to wait on the Lord even when God seemed to continue to hide His face. Isaiah kept on hoping in the Lord consistently. He did not falter in anyway. Let us be challenged to be consistent in our faith, life and ministry.

5. Confirmation

“Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.” (Isa 8:18) This was Isaiah’s confirmation of his consecration. Despite the challenges of ministry, Isaiah continued to offer himself and his children to serve the Lord. He saw themselves as “signs and wonders” to the people of Israel…which was his prophetic ministry. Isaiah was meant to bring the light of the Lord to Israel. Let us be challenged to confirm our consecration.

6. Conclusion

“To the law and to the testimony!” (Isa 8:20) What is the conclusion? There is no light to those who do not speak according to the Word of the Lord. There is only light in the law and the testimony of the Lord. Let us be challenged to walk and minister in the light of the Lord and His Word.
