AND HE BELIEVED IN THE LORD

GREAT BLESSINGS OF GOD PROMISED

Great were the blessings God promised to Abram. Here is a quick summary (Genesis 12:2-3)

  1. I will make you a great nation
  1. I will bless you
  1. And make your name great
  1. And you shall be a blessing
  1. In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed

What would your response be if these words were said to you?

NOTEWORTHY RESPONSES

The Scriptures noted the following response of Abram.

  1. Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him     Genesis 12:4
  1. He built an altar to the LORD     Genesis 12:7
  1. And called on the name of the LORD     Genesis 12:8; 13:4

AND HE BELIEVED IN THE LORD

It wasn’t till much later when it was carefully recorded

And he believed in the LORD,

And He accounted it to him for righteousness.     Genesis 15:6 

Several questions arise as we read Genesis 12-15.

  1. Did Abram “believe” in the beginning?

   The short answer is “Yes!”

  1. His expression of faith was found in obedience Hebrews 11:8
  1. His expression of faith was in building an altar to worship God
  1. His expression of faith was to walk with God

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GENESIS 15:6

The following things may be noted: –

  1. A clear declaration of faith must have been made
  1. A certain and definite faith must have been found
  1. A critical crux of faith must have been formed

There may have been some moments of uncertainty or doubt in the past! But no more!

AND IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS

Physical blessings are not to be sniffed at! They are wonderful and uplifting. But far greater is the justification that he received from the Lord God!

  1. Righteousness was accounted to Abram
  1. This may be called “imputed righteousness”
  1. Abram stood as a justified person in the presence of a great and holy God

All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ may receive the same justification of faith!

Therefore, having been justified by faith,

We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.      Romans 5:1
