OH, GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD

CELEBRATING OUR CHURCH ANNIVERSARY

What thoughts should fill our hearts and mind as we celebrate Bethany’s 40+5 Anniversary? Let us draw much encouragement from Psalm 118. Let us celebrate the following things: –

  1. The goodness of the Lord     Psalm 118:1
  1. His enduring mercy     Psalm 118:1-4

3. His gracious answer to prayer     Psalm 118:5

  1. The Lord God on our side     Psalm 118:6-7

a) He provides people to be with us

b) He is also personally there with the people He sent

  1. He is our strength and song     Psalm 118:14
  1. He is also the Giver of our salvation (deliverance)     Psalm 118:14-15, 21
  1. His right hand does valiantly     Psalm 118:16

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND?

Appropriate response is necessary. Let us consider the following things the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 118. It is appropriate to do the following things: –

  1. Give thanks     Psalm 118:1
  1. No fear     Psalm 118:8
  1. Trust     Psalm 118:8-9
  1. Rejoice     Psalm 118:15
  1. Declare God’s works     Psalm 118:17
  1. Acceptance of chastening     Psalm 118:18
  1. Praise     Psalm 118:21
  1. Seek God in prayer     Psalm 118:25

RE-AFFIRMATION OF OUR FAITH IN GOD

Let us re-affirm our faith in the Lord God.

You are my God and I will praise You;

You are my God, I will exalt You. 

Oh, give thanks to the LORD,

For He is good

And His mercy endures forever.     Psalm 118:28-29 

Let us give great praise and rejoice in the Lord our God as we think of how the Lord has blessed us for all these 45 years!
