Text: Psalm 116

A PERFECTLY APPROPRIATE RESPONSE
We are just one week shy of celebrating Bethany’s 40+5 Anniversary! The Psalmist who wrote Psalm 116 offers a perfectly appropriate response.
I love the LORD because He has heard my voice
And my supplications.
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore, I will call upon Him as long as I live. Psalm 116:1-2
- I love the LORD
a) This is most appropriate
b) Love for the Lord should be our natural response
- Even if there is just one reason given
a) Because God has heard prayers
b) This was reason enough to love the Lord
- Therefore, I will call upon Him as long as I live
a) Love for the Lord should lead us to pray to Him
b) A strong determination was made by the Psalmist to call upon the Lord always!
REMEMBERING THE TIMES WHEN GOD HEARD OUR PRAYERS
The Psalmist remembered a special time when the Lord heard his prayers.
The pains of death surrounded me,
And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;
I found trouble and sorrow.
Then I called upon the name of the LORD;
“O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul!” Psalm 116:3-4
- Remembering the tough times of life
a) There will be times when we go through some tough times. Some of us have had near-death situations!
- Trouble and sorrow
a) Some of us have also experienced times of trouble and sorrow! And in such times, human help is very limited.
- O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul
a) Desperate prayers were sent out to the Lord
b) In deep humility prayers were offered
- And He saved me Psalm 116:6
The Psalmist could not forget how the Lord saved him out of his trouble and sorrow. The Lord delivered him from death! It was natural to express love for such a great and gracious God!
Let us speak of love for the Lord as we take time to remember His grace and goodness to us!
