The Everlasting Mercy of God
I recently graduated from NUS with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and this marks the long journey of formal education. Upon looking back on all these years, I testify of God’s goodness! I want to give much thanks and praise to Him, blessing His name. Psalm 100:4-5 reads:
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.”
As I dwell on the years past, I trace God’s goodness throughout the journey. He brought me through education by helping me to understand all that I require, and allowed me to learn the things I enjoy. He opened up opportunities for me to go through various experiences as well – going on an exchange programme in Canada, participating in extra-curricular activities, etc. In these experiences, He gave abundant grace, blessing me in what I did, as well as taught me spiritual lessons along the way. Last but not least, He blessed me with a job before graduation. When friends were fretting about what to do after graduation, I was granted peace in my heart knowing what God had blessed me with. The Lord is indeed good, and I am extremely grateful.
In verse 5, the psalmist wrote of how the Lord’s mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations. Moving forward as I begin a new phase of life in the workplace, I recognise that there will be new challenges that I will encounter. In school, we are encouraged to try, and to be unafraid to make mistakes. However, the real deal begins at the workplace, and we might not be so easily forgiven, with very real consequences. Also, my bosses and colleagues could be difficult to work with. Or perhaps the work given to me may seem too hard to handle. But I believe in the everlasting mercy of the Lord, and His enduring truth. He has been good and merciful to me, and will continue to! I do not want to focus on the challenges that may lay ahead of me, but rather, on the Lord and His goodness. I want to do all things as to the Lord, to seek to walk right with Him always, and to trust in Him even if the immediate future seems bleak.
“For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” This will be something I will hold on to for the future to come!
