The Word

Text: John 1:1-5

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

1. The Word

It can be used to refer to the following things:

a. A message from God.

b. The Scriptures as “the word of God”.

c. The Person of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself as “The Living Word”.

2. The True identity of The Word

a. The human part of Jesus was described in Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2.

i. His parents.

ii. His miracle-birth.

iii. The worship given by the Wise Men.

b. The Divine part of Jesus is described in this text

i. He has an eternal existence.

ii. He was with God right at the beginning.

iii. He has a Divine nature as God.

iv. He is the Co-Creator with God the Father.

3. Important Features revealed in this text

a. He is Light.

b. He came to give light to a very dark world.

4. The struggle between Light and Darkness

a. Darkness will try and prevent Light from shining.

b. But Darkness will not prevail.

c. Jesus is the Light that will dispel the deepest darkness.

d. Jesus will give light to everyone who comes to Him in faith.
