Wait on the LORD; Be of Good Courage

LEARNING TO WAIT ON THE LORD

1. The Principle

a) Let no one who waits on You be ashamed   (Psalm 25:3)
i) Not disappointed
ii) No reason to be ashamed
b) Waiting for God:
i) To hear and respond to prayers offered
ii) To deliver from the plots and snares of enemies
iii) To defeat enemies

2. The Practice

a) On You I wait all the day   (Psalm 25:5)
i) For God to show His ways
ii) For God to teach His paths
iii) For God to lead in His truth and teach
b) I wait for You   (Psalm 25:21)
i) In hope
ii) In expectation

3. Things to dwell on while waiting on the Lord

a) The Lord as the Light   (Psalm 27:1a)
b) The Lord as Saviour   (Psalm 27:1b)
c) The Lord as the Strength   (Psalm 27:1c)

4. The Exercise of Faith

a) In prayer
i) Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice   (Psalm 27:7a)
ii) Have mercy also upon Me, and answer me   (Psalm 27:7b)
b) Seeking God’s face in prompt response
i) When You said, “Seek My face”
ii) My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek”   (Psalm 27:8)
c) In hope of the future
i) Losing heart
I would have lost heart
ii) Believing and trusting God
Unless I had believed that I would see the goodness in the land of the living   (Psalm 27:13)
d) Exercising courage
i) Wait on the LORD
ii) Be of good courage   (Psalm 27:14)
