The practice of the Word of God
“The things which you learnt and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Phil 4:9)
1. The things learnt
a. Things that the brethren had learnt as disciples of Paul.
b. They were to receive well what Paul had taught.
c. Many things that were heard and understood from Paul.
d. The brethren should dwell upon them.
e. It was also to see and perceive things that Paul had exemplified.
2. Emulating the example of Paul
a. The challenge that Paul gave was “These do”.
b. Not only should we meditate but also to practise these things that have been learnt.
c. We want to follow His wonderful example.
d. The challenge is to do them and to make them part of our life.
Sensing the presence of the God of peace
1. There is a connection between practising the Word of God and the God of peace being with us
2. God is full of peace
a. He gives His peace to all.
b. More significant than His peace, it is His presence.
3. The God of peace will be with us
a. When we put into practice the things Paul taught and exemplified in his life, the presence of the God of peace will be with us.
b. We would be able to sense His presence through all the challenges of life.
c. As Paul sensed the presence of God in his life, we would also be able to sense His presence.
d. With God’s presence, there is nothing that we need to fear and to be anxious about.
