FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN

Text: Isaiah 9: 1-7

A GREAT DILEMMA

Israel’s grave sins against the resulted in the nation being plunged into great distress! The following text describes the state of the nation.

The people who walked in darkness

Have seen a great light;

Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,

Upon them a light has shined.     Isaiah 9:2 

  1. The symbol of “darkness”

a) No light of hope

b) Despair prevailed

  1. The shadow of death

a) Many were in despair

b) They awaited death as an inevitable outcome

GOD’S SOLUTION OFFERED

God had a solution to the dilemma of the people. He would send His Messiah!

For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given;

And the government will be upon His shoulder.

And His name will be called Wonderful,

Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.     Isaiah 9:6

  1. Christ Jesus Himself is the Answer
  1. He will govern His people well
  1. He will be that Light that will dispel the darkness completely

HONOURING THE LORD JESUS          

The titles of the Lord help us to appreciate who He is and what He will do for His people.

1. He will be truly “Wonderful”

2. He will be the Wisest Counselor ever

3. He is “Mighty God”- Immanuel

4. He will be “Everlasting Father”

5. He is the “Prince of Peace”

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us take time to dwell on who the Lord Jesus is and how we can relate to Him better! Let’s be reminded of an old chorus:

He is my everything;

He is my all.

He is my everything

Both great and small.

He gave His life for me;

Made everything new.

He is my everything

Now how about you?
