Things Celebrated at the Feast of Tabernacles
Text: John 7: 37-38
THINGS CELEBRATED AT THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES
This Feast is celebrated for a whole week. The focus of the Feast of Tabernacles recalls the period of history when the children of Israel spent forty years in the Wilderness. What were some of the things that were remembered? Four things may be highlighted:
1. God’s provision of manna
2. God’s provision of water
3. God’s protection
4. God’s presence
(The account of the children of Israel’s 40-year journey in the Wilderness is found in the Books of Exodus and Numbers.)
AT THE END OF THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES
Jesus, the Master-Teacher that He was seized the opportunity to preach a wonderfully-relevant message at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles.
“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
John 7:37-38
1. The miraculous provision in ancient days
a. Of manna.
b. Of water.
2. The miraculous provision in the present
a. Jesus is the Bread of life.
b. He offers living water.
3. A gracious invitation to all who are spiritually thirsty
a. To come to Jesus for the living water.
b. Jesus offered this living water to the woman of Samaria (John 4:10, 14).
c. He offers this living water to all… then and now.
4. “He who believes in Me”
a. He offered more than the quenching of thirst.
b. He offered a life that is likened to rivers of living water.
What a wonderful invitation from the Lord Jesus to come to him in faith!
