My Song In The Night (Gospel of John)
Everyone Went to His Own Home
Text: John 8: 1-2
EVERYONE WENT TO HIS OWN HOME
The meeting of the chief priests and the Pharisees ended with a statement that everyone went to his own home (John 7:53).
WHERE DID JESUS SPEND HIS NIGHT?
Jesus once said the following words to a person who expressed a wish to follow Him.
“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
Luke 9:58
This was a statement that may be understood literally. Jesus did not have a permanent address! When everyone went home, where did Jesus spend the night?
“But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.”
John 8:1
1. Jesus spent the night in the Mount of Olives.
2. He had no home in Jerusalem to rest in.
3. How did He spend His night?
a. In meditation.
b. In prayer.
c. In preparation for the last stage of His earthly ministry
i. Where He would be arrested.
ii. Where He would suffer much in the hands of His enemies.
iii. He would die a terrible death before His resurrection.
EARLY IN THE MORNING
Jesus spent much time in close fellowship with His Father. He was an early riser. He would always begin His day in prayer and in communion with God (Mark 1:35).
“Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.”
John 8:2
1. “Early in the morning”
a. This would be early dawn.
b. He would have to make His descent from Mount Olives early in the morning.
2. Teaching at the temple
a. The people continued to flock to Him.
b. Being the eternal Teacher He taught the multitude.
c. He was totally unafraid of suffering or death!
a. 思想
b. 祷告
iii.
