MARRIAGE
1. Man gets married (Deuteronomy 22:13)
2. He charges her with shameful conduct (Deuteronomy 22:14a)
3. Problem specified:
The wife was not a virgin (Deuteronomy 22:14b)
IN DEFENCE
1. The parents of the young woman are able to prove that she is a virgin
2. The charge of the husband is refuted
3. He is fined
4. He is not allowed a divorce (Deuteronomy 22:18)
5. He has brought shame to her (Deuteronomy 22:19)
BUT IF THE CHARGE IS TRUE
1. Signs of virginity not found (Deuteronomy 22:20)
2. Penalty (Death by stoning) (Deuteronomy 22:21)
THE DEATH PENALTY
1. Illicit sexual relationship (Deuteronomy 22:22-2)
2. Rape of a betrothed woman
a) The rapist to be punished by death (Deuteronomy 22:25)
b) But the woman is not to be punished (Deuteronomy 22:26-27)
3. Rape of a woman not betrothed
a) Rapist is to be fined
b) He must marry the girl (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)
WHERE MARRIAGE IS FORBIDDEN
A man is forbidden to marry his step-mother (Deuteronomy 22:30)
