A Beautiful Story
Text: John 12: 3
A BEAUTIFUL STORY
John recorded a beautiful story of the evening when Jesus was at the home of Lazarus.
“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. and the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.”
John 12:3
1. The family of Lazarus
a. Lazarus sat with Jesus at the supper table.
b. Martha served.
c. Where was Mary?
2. “Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard”
a. Mary had always been different from Martha.
b. When Jesus was in their home on another occasion, Mary just sat at the feet of Jesus to learn from Him (Luke 10:38-42).
c. Once again, she did something very different, special and precious.
d. Spikenard oil was imported from India.
e. It was costly and was used to anoint the head!
f. A whole pound of it would have cost a small fortune.
3. “Anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair”
a. Mary did not anoint the head of Jesus.
b. Instead she anointed the feet of Jesus.
c. And then she wiped His feet with her hair; such was her humility before a great Lord.
d. To say the least, this was an unheard-of deed!
4. “And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil”
a. Such was the quality of the fragrant spikenard oil.
b. The house was filled with the smell of the fragrance of the spikenard.
WHAT WAS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS DEED?
Mary could never forget the last conversation with the Lord Jesus Christ.
1. Her heart was filled with despair when her beloved brother had died.
2. Unbelief had overcome her and she was upset that Jesus had not come earlier to prevent death.
3. How could she express her love, gratitude for a restored faith when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead?
The outpouring of the pound of spikenard oil would be her love-gift to her beloved Teacher and Lord!

一个美丽的故事
约翰记载了耶稣在拉撒路的家中时一个美丽的故事。
“马利亚就拿着一斤极贵的真哪哒香膏,抹耶稣的脚,又用自己的头发去擦,屋里就满了膏的香气。”
