"I will execute vengeance"

Text: Micah 5:15

THE JUDGMENT OF THE LORD

The doctrine of the Lord’s judgment was always a difficult one to proclaim. Nevertheless, it had to be taught. God had already declared what He would do to Israel. God would have to deal as firmly with wicked Gentile nations.

“And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury
On the nations that have not heard.”
Micah 5:15

1. “And I will execute vengeance”

a) First the Lord had to try the nations.

b) He would show them their wickedness.

c) Then He would execute His judgments.

d) The word “vengeance” must be carefully understood.

i) It is Divine justice.

ii) It is not unfair or prejudiced.

iii) It would be righteous judgment.

iv) It would be just recompense.

v) Divine justice would be upheld.

2. “In anger and fury”

a) This is God’s kind of anger and fury.

b) This is not sinful man’s anger and fury.

c) And God has every right to be angry and furious.

3. “On the nations that have not heard”

a) This is a reference to Gentile nations.

b) They may not have heard about the laws of God.

c) But they would still be judged fairly according to divine justice.

HOW GOD WOULD JUDGE

The Apostle Paul wrote in his epistle about the wrath of God and how He would one day judge the world (Romans 1:18-32).

1. God has made Himself known to all mankind (Romans 1:18).

2. The problem lies with sinful mankind who has suppressed or rejected His revelation (Romans 1:19-28).

3. God would judge them according to their deeds (Romans 1:29-32).

4. He would judge them according to their conscience (Romans 2:15).
