THE PRESENCE OF ENEMIES

King David was conscious of many enemies in his time. There were many types of enemies:

  1. State enemies

a) There were hostile neighbours

b) These were perpetual enemies

c) They engaged in battles from time to time

  1. Personal enemies

a) These could be friends who became enemies

b) These could be enemies pretending to be friends

c) Either way they caused much grief

THE PRESENCE OF GOD

David learned an important spiritual truth as he increased in knowledge and faith. He learned how to treasure the Presence of God. His fears of enemies were dealt with when he learned this great truth.

Let God arise,

Let His enemies be scattered,

Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.

As smoke is driven away;

So drive them away;

As wax melts before the fire,

So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

But let the righteous be glad;

Let them rejoice before God;

Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.     Psalm 68:1-3

  1. Let God arise

a) This is a prayer to God to make His Presence felt

b) Enemies would then be scattered

i)   They are compared to smoke that is painful to breathe in

ii)  They are further compared to wax that would melt away in the presence of fire

iii) The wicked in the presence of God would perish

  1. The righteous in the Presence of God

a) They may indeed be glad

b) They may rejoice exceedingly

c) The Presence of God is to be thoroughly cherished

Let us seek to comprehend this great truth concerning the Presence of God!
