A Firm Reminder

Text: John 15: 17

A FIRM REMINDER

Jesus gave many reminders to His Disciples. He gently but firmly reminded His disciples to practise loving one another.

“These things I command you, that you love one another.”

John 15:17

1. “These things I command you”

a. To abide in Christ

b. To abide in His word

c. To abide in His love

d. To love one another as Jesus had loved them

e. To bear much fruit

f. To ensure that the fruit would remain

g. To appreciate being called “friends”

h. To practise true friendship as Jesus did

i. To be prayerful

2. The tendency to forget

a. This is a very real problem.

b. Sin affects us adversely and so we tend to take things for granted.

c. Forgetfulness must be resisted strenuously.

3. “That you love one another”

a. The examples cited:

i. As the Father loved the Son.

ii. As the Son loved His Disciples.

b. The kind of love Jesus displayed:

i. Sacrificial

ii. Unconditional

iii. Everlasting

iv. Profound

v. Never superficial

The challenge to obey the Lord Jesus Christ is relevant and important for all believers, then and now.
