"Yet I am the LORD your God"

Text: Hosea 13:4

KIND REMEMBRANCE OF GOD

The LORD God continued to show much mercy to Israel, simply because of who He is. Graciously and kindly He remembered Israel in its early years.

“Yet I am the LORD your God
Ever since the land of Egypt,
And you shall know no God but Me;
For there is no savior besides Me.
I knew you in the wilderness,
In the land of great drought.”
Hosea 13:4-5

1. “Yet I am the LORD your God”

a) The word “LORD” was introduced to Moses and Israel (Exodus 6:3).

b) He would be the LORD their Covenant-God (Exodus 6:4).

c) He would be a great and merciful God to Israel (Exodus 34:6-7).

i) Merciful and gracious

ii) Longsuffering

iii) Abounding in goodness and truth

iv) Keeping mercy for thousands

v) Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin

vi) By no means clearing the guilty (who are unrepentant)

2. “And you shall know no God but Me”

a) There is only one God in the first place.

b) The idols worshipped were not gods.

c) This was a word of hope for the future.

i) One day, Israel will return to God.

ii) The nation would acknowledge and worship Him then.

3. “I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought”

a) The wilderness years was a rough patch in Israel’s early history.

b) The wilderness was described as a land of great drought.

c) In those years, God graciously and mercifully

i) Provided food and water.

ii) Protected them day and night.

iii) Revealed Himself to Israel through His faithful servant Moses.
